Shooting Stories

Luis Ehrhardt

It was one of my first big Bianchi Cup competitions and admittedly, as an aspiring junior marksman, I had a lot of respect for all the big names who had gathered on the shooting range...

GECO HEXAGON 9 mm Luger 124 grain

It was early in the morning and colder than expected. I shivered a little and was nervous before the match started. In the preparation zone, I loaded the single-stack 1911 magazines of my STI match pistol in 9 mm Luger with the GECO 124 grain HEXAGON cartridge, which deliver absolute top precision from my firearm.

GECO HEXAGON

Modelled on the hollow-point design, the HEXAGON bullet was built for absolute precision and without regard for its expansion properties. This non-expanding bullet thus combines the advantages of the HP design, such as the closed end, with optimal potential for accuracy.

GECO ACTION EXTREME

Handgun ammunition with unparalleled stopping power. The bullet mushrooms in a controlled manner and achieves outstanding penetration. The energy is transferred completely to the target, resulting in excellent stopping power. Shooters can count on GECO Action Extreme.

GECO LEAD ROUND NOSE COPPER-PLATED

The reduced smoke production and minimal pollution load of the copper-plated variant round off the advantages of the LRN bullet.

GECO ENCAPSULATED FMJ

The encapsulated version emerged as a successor product to the conventional FMJ bullets, it being distinguished by a reduced pollution load and smoke production.

GECO FULL METAL JACKET

Due to its technically simple construction, the FMJ bullet is not expensive to manufacture. It therefore particularly appeals to shooters with high training intensities.

GECO WAD CUTTER

Thanks to its shoulder-stabilized attitude in flight, the wad cutter bullet allows for outstanding accuracy even with low projectile velocities.

GECO JACKETED HOLLOW POINT

The hollow-point bullet is the perfect choice if absolute precision is what you’re after. That is why it has enjoyed the trust of top shooters from across the globe for many years now.

GECO FULL METAL JACKET FLAT NOSE

Due to the proportionally large frontal area of the Full Metal Jacket Flat-Nose, a shoulder stabilisation is being achieved, which has a positive effect on the precision features. Furthermore, with the same cartridge length a bullet with a higher mass can be used.

GECO LEAD ROUND NOSE

The traditional LRN bullet conforms well to the barrel profile and also results in very little wear on the barrel due to reduced friction.

GECO SOFTPOINT

The soft-point bullet represents a compromise between the FMJ and the hollow-point bullet in terms of its design.

GECO SOFTPOINT

A relatively young, inexperienced marksman started in front of me and had to struggle with enormous technical problems after firing three shots, so that he exceeded the time limit and had to stop this exercise with a DNF (“Did Not Finish”) in a completely unnerved state. Seeing this didn't help to alleviate my nervousness.

Finally, I was called forward by the Range Officer and stepped to the starting line of the Falling Plates Event.

However, my mental calm and self-confidence were restored once I had hit the six 20 cm diameter steel hinged plates neatly in the middle within the time limit of six seconds over two passes at the closest distance of 10 metres.

Luis (22), junior marksman

Reliable gear.

However, my mental calm and self-confidence were restored once I had hit the six 20 cm diameter steel hinged plates neatly in the middle within the time limit of six seconds over two passes at the closest distance of 10 metres. I was then able to drop the six steel plates without error below the time limits of 7, 8 and 9 seconds at 15, 20 and 25 metres in two or four passes. From then on, the competition was plain sailing for me.

It's nice when you can rely 100% on your gear!

Despite his young age of 22, Luis Ehrhardt can already look back on a remarkable sport shooting career and has gained a great deal of experience.

Here you can see him at the tender age of 14 shooting with his small bore pistol in the open class of the Bianchi Cup...

...and together with "the" world's best Bianchi Cup shooter, multiple world and USA champion Doug Koenig.
