Hunting Story

THE CALL OF THE WILD …

A life without hunting? It would be inconceivable for Tommy today. He got his hunting license for reasons of animal welfare and sustainability.

“I have never regretted my decision, not even for a second! I’ve learned things the no-one can take away from me and acquired knowledge about our environment and its creatures that I can hopefully pass on to my children one day,” says the 36-year-old.

“RESPECT THE WILD” – HUNTING IS HIS PURPOSE IN LIFE

Hunting has since become far more than a mere passion for Tommy – it’s his life purpose. So he is naturally concerned to treat animals humanely, which of course includes taking them down quickly and painlessly – one of the reasons why he picks the GECO ZERO product line. “The rounds are completely reliable, even when shooting big game. The animals pretty much always drop in their tracks. The hollow-point design improves accuracy and is utterly convincing in terms of effectiveness. GECO ZERO is an excellent choice, especially if you have to shoot lead free.” Tommy loads his four rifles with the calibres 7.92×57mm Mauser, 308/270 Winchester and 30-06 Springfield, which he uses in different scenarios. But they share a common purpose: a humane and efficient kill.

GECO ZERO – THE CLEVER HUNTING BULLET

Tommy picked GECO ZERO and its wide range of calibres, not least due to its impressive versatility and his various hunting interests. “The bullet is a real all-rounder and available to buy in 12 calibres. Its outstanding immediate effect and stopping power deserve special mention due to their benefits for boar hunting especially. Although the game tend to bruise a little more than with deformation bullets – but damage to the meat is still comparatively moderate and the bullets deliver a reliable performance. It’s a real delight for game enthusiasts.”

GAME MANAGEMENT AND THOROUGH USE OF THE MEAT

The native of Stuttgart puts a lot of stock in humane hunting and respect for the animals: “Nothing can replace the proper application of hunting techniques. You should always remember that you are dealing with living creatures.” In addition to respectful game management, this naturally includes thorough utilisation of the food obtained. “A take-down is not enough and it is certainly not fair towards the animal or nature!”, says Tommy. “Hunting is simply the best way to obtain high-quality meat.”

TOMMY (36), HUNTER FOR LIFE

SHARING EXPERIENCES AND RESULTS

The passionate huntsman has acquired plenty of knowledge over the years. As Wild Hunter Germany, he offers free advice and tips to hunting licence candidates and shares his experiences from the woods and fields with like-minded people online. This is his way of encouraging people to pass on their expertise. He also has a love of good gear and keeps up with the latest hunting gadgets, always on the lookout for new products that might promote humane hunting in a meaningful way. Suppressors and drones in particular have a bright future in his view.

HUNTING IN THE BIG WIDE WORLD

His 500-hectare local hunting grounds are situated on the fringes of the Schönbuch woodlands to the south of Stuttgart. It is home mainly to wild boars and roe deer. Tommy loves tracking, besides the autumn driven hunts with their shared meals and sociable flair. The circumstances in the German hunting grounds mean that hunting from a blind is fairly rare occurrence. “I really prefer tracking in Africa or Tuscany. For me it is the most authentic, exciting and honest way to hunt!” One of the reasons he gives is his very special relationship with hunting abroad. He actually earned his hunting spurs outside Germany. More precisely, he was hunting in foreign countries long before he obtained a national hunting license. The globetrotting hunter has a particular foible for bows and arrows. But he mainly uses a rifle to pursue hoofed game and predators in Germany.
